It’s autumn here in orchard country. This area, gets the most amazing foliage. We wanted to share some photos of the autumn leaves. I love waking up in the morning to the smell of autumn fog and looking through it to see the leaves changing color. I also love the bright blue skied mornings when the air is dry and crisp and the autumn foliage plays with the sunshine, little yellow leaves sparkling as they fall from the trees to the ground. A perfect artistic statement made by the partnership of the gentle autumn breezes and gravity.
Even inside the house there is no escape from nature’s glory. It is quite a rainbow, beautiful shads of red fade into orange then gold and yellow and still some green remains, all standing against a backdrop of periwinkle blue sky. October will be here in just a day or so…. Then the beautiful trees will truly come into their full brilliance, this is just the beginning, most of the colors will come into their own throughout October.
We look forward to getting cozy for the winter. It is a big job preparing out here to be ready for a nasty cold winter. We expect a lot of snow as we are located in the snow belt of MA. We are waiting for that nip in the air…. We can’t wait to be drinking hot spiced cider from just up the road, by our wood stove. We look forward to Halloween and Thanks Giving, both of which are not far off now. We have begun to prepare, we had wood delivered, and purchased a chicken coop that is better designed for the elements especially in the winter. We have also hired a snow plow and find ourselves discussing about weather or not we need a 4 wheel drive car…. I think we do. So we will have to deal with that before the snow comes. Everywhere around us it is harvest time. Pick your own pumpkins and apples all over the area…. And do it all under the magical foliage this time of year.
Every morning, I feel gifted. I get up and go outside to feed the animals. I take my goats for a walk where they too get to enjoy the autumn leaves. They eat them as they lay blanketing the ground while I ogle the beauty and vastness of nature all around me, sucking in the beauty of Fall before the New England winter strikes, destroying the beauty that exists here during the rest of the year. The cold takes the whole world hostage till the flowers in the spring peep out above the white snow and the cycle begins again.
Out here I feel more at peace and more in touch with the seasons as they pass. I look forward to the cold and the cozy, and I love the magic of the fall, I hope it is a short winter and a long autumn.
This is a busy time of year….. But it is a joyful season. Full of laughter and change.
