Most people don’t realize this…. They just think I am lazy. I’m not. What I am is extremely dyslexic. I couldn’t read till I was quite a bit older than other children and I had to learn in a different way. It was very difficult. Because of my dyslexia, I know my grammar and spelling on this blog can be a bit off. But I can’t see it. I can’t tell the difference because my dyslexia is that kind of severe. So it isn’t that I am too lazy to edit, it is that I am largely clinically unable to.
I remember the day I could finally read, I was in the cereal isle of the grocery store with my mother. I don’t know if she even realized what was happening. I was about 9 or 10 years old…. It was like an explosion in my brain. A big bang of the written word. Suddenly, all the words on all the cereal boxes were speaking to me. My world, my universe expanded in just and instant. My little world grew to beyond comprehension. I still can’t touch their borders over 20 years later. Once that explosion happened there was no turning back. I read everything I could get my hands on. I still do. I love to explore the limitless universe of the written word. This exploration lead me to want to go to places that do not exist in the world of the physical and the real. I wanted to interact with my senses with these incredible literary dream worlds.
One of my favorite stories as a child was Peter Pan, I was over joyed to find that it had entered public domain, so that I could make some soaps based on and inspired by the story. In most cases even directly pulled from the pages of the story. This isn’t the first time I have created fragrances around literature. I have done it with the legends of King Arthur as well. I am also working on a few inspired by Shakespeare…. I love creating natural and holistically and I love being able to bring the stories that expanded my universe to life. I look forward to offering these on the Etsy shop along with some of the other fragrances I am making based on Peter Pan. So think happy thoughts and let me sprinkle you with fairy dust and we will fly!
