I first met my new buddy Moose, a few days ago at my neighbor’s place. Sometimes I like to go over and help any way I can. I miss being around horses it has been a lot of years since I gave up my horse Teddy. So I go there every so often to get my horse fix.
My neighbors take in fosters from Nevin’s Farm a branch of the MSPCA. Moose, came to them through a law enforcement case in which he was removed from a “person,” that allowed him to become more than eight hundred lbs underweight, in effect starving him more than half to death. I took one look at him, and I just started to shake… The awesome suffering of this once majestic creature, now reduced to just his suffering and skin and bones was more than I could stomach. Looking at him, I nearly threw up.
I feel this need to do some things to help the sweet tortured animal that takes the carrots I put on the ground in front of him. It is so very important to help when we can. So I am contributing to his rehab in every possible way I can. He has been welcomed to use our property for grazing and for any muscle rebuilding walks he goes on. I have made a donation to his rehab, and every couple of days I go over with treats and anything else I can think of that he might need.
Life is short and we only live it once. Each moment we get to decide who we want to be. I have decided I can’t look at a starving thing and do nothing. We are the compassion we show to others. Moose, is not the only suffering animal and now is the season of giving. The MSPCA, is always looking for donations. There are many ways to help. Make your choice about who you want to be, then help. Check their website and give whatever you can. Tis the season… And animals like my friend Moose, who is now in a good place getting what he needs need your help.
