Not far from our home at Wildflower Farm as I lovingly call it, there are many larger family owned farms. All of them wonderful. We go to Balance Rock, to pick up feed for the goats and bacon, and we hit up Indian Head another fantastic farm, for flowering plants to put in the garden, occasionally for vegetables, and this year and last year we went there for our Christmas tree. They sell many fabulous things, including all kinds of Christmas greenery. But that isn’t why we go. We go, because the people are warm and smiling, they seem to love what they do and they are kind and welcoming, creating a pleasant and friendly atmosphere.
The product they sell is also really wonderful. We always seem to get these super well balanced trees for Christmas from them. And they are always big, full, and healthy. And they smell so so good!
We walk among the trees and Christmas greenery, and pick out what we want. And if we don’t see it we go inside and tell them what we want and they make it up just for us! They do amazing work putting all manner of natural decor together. But not just the wreaths and things. They also use all sorts of natural items found on and around their farm and make the cutest rustic Christmas tree decorations. My husband bought one of a person sledding and I picked up a sweet little angel made from nature to put on our tree this year. The tree decorations were amazingly creative and so much fun. I would highly recommend if you haven’t got them to pick a couple up. They look fantastic on the tree.
Interestingly enough, it was Indian Head farm, we first went to when we first created our home here…. We were welcomed with kindness, and a smile. I love going back to get our tree to say hello again and to revisit in my memory the first town people we met in our new town. I love this place and every day I love it more. I love it because of all the wonderful farms and the kind people that make this place what it is.
