The dogs took off down a path cut by who knows who….. And like a good dog owner, I went after them. I don’t often venture into the woods that make up a fair portion of our five acres of land…. But just the other day I did. I chased the dogs through the fog, down the old path…. And what I found was an amazing unexpected shock….. An early Christmas gift from Wildflower Farm herself.
So much here amazes me…. All of the things time has forgotten on this farm from the property line, an old stone wall who’s builders have been gone now for probably hundreds of years…. To the ancient fencing left behind by a former inhabitant all rusted and useless now……
One thing is clear, Old Wildflower has her secrets and she will decide when to share them. Just the other day, she shared with me something amazing.
It was all invisible from the gravel and dirt road. Without the dogs being naughty, I never would have come across all this old dead farm equipment out in the woods, hidden by the farm like a treasure, only uncovered for those the farm herself trusts the most….
They lay on the forest floor like half covered corpses…. Blending in with their rust. You could walk past them dozens of times and unless you were right on top of them, you would never know they were there.
As I wandered around it, I felt touched by the ghosts of the past, and I wondered how did all this come to be here on my little farm?
And I wonder, who put it here? What was this place long ago before the house went up and the land was partially cleared?
What were these once operational tools used for?
So many mysteries…. But one thing is clear, the farm has chosen to share this secret with me… I wonder what other secrets she is keeping. Perhaps someday we will find out.
