First things first, I want to thank my friend Jean, of Mitchell Family Farms, where they produce veggies and raw wool for spinning, for these adorable photos. Not only do they do all that, but they also produce these cute baby ducks. Three of which will in only a few weeks come here to their new home. Click here, to follow Mitchell Farms .
Hupu, Tupu, Ja (and) Lupu, are what we will name our three ducks. And we will love them as no one else has ever loved ducks. For us, they will be bringing my husband’s favorite childhood comic, a comic that has been running in his homeland for generations, into the real world of our farm. Finnish children grow up on the duck comic about Donald Duck’s nephews. It has become an essential part of the culture.
So, when my friend Jean, from down the road, let me know she had some Pekin ducks that would need a good home in a few weeks when they are old enough…. Well, wouldn’t ya know it, I volunteered our farm to take three of them. I think it is going to be very interesting to see how my husband and the rest of my Finnish family reacts to Hupu, Tupu, ja Lupu, in real life, outside the comic books.
I am afraid and sad to say, I am truly not much of a farmer unlike my friend Jean who is excellent and has been doing this for a lifetime. I have only been at it for about a year and a half. These, will be my first ducks ever. I look forward to learning to care for them and I am so glad to have supportive farm advisors such as Jean, and several others in the local community. I don’t know what I would do without them. I also look forward to testing out duck eggs. I hear they are even healthier than chicken eggs and that those allergic to chicken eggs (such as myself) may not react to duck eggs.
We are really looking forward to this wonderful new adventure in farming and we will keep everyone up to date, by chronicling a bit as the ducks (ankat) grow until they are ready to be relocated here to start lives of adventure such as the ones they live in the comic books. I truly believe this is going to be a lot of fun. Thank you so much Mitchell Family Farm, for raising up some ducks just for us!
